Rethink Summer School
Summer School can never be the same again!
The RETHINK Summer School presents once again a unique experience for children aged 4 to 16 to use English to explore the world around them through a variety of creative activities.
The aim of the RETHINK Summer School is for children to fully use the language in a creative and entertaining way, exploring and experimenting through English. Children are divided into age groups and with specially selected activities from various scientific fields, graded appropriately for their language competence and cognitive abilities, they practise using the language naturally and spontaneously.
4 – 6 years old
Through nursery rhymes, stories and videos adapted to suit their age, children are introduced to the daily themes. They then explore the subject through activities that not only challenge their imagination, but also their critical thinking skills, allowing them to use English to the fullest extent possible.
Sample activities:
- Sing-Along
- Drama
- Arts & Crafts
- Creative Play
- Science Experiments
7 – 9 years old
The introduction to the daily theme is done in a simple and comprehensible way through stories, quizzes and games. Children discover elements of the past, the present and the future related to the Sciences and the Arts, and aim to develop the necessary research and critical thinking skills, experimenting through imaginative activities such as:
- Arts & Crafts
- Science Projects
- History Projects
- Problem-solving activities
- Web-quests
10 – 12 years old
The Sciences and the Arts form the basis of this age group. Children are invited to discover important technological and scientific achievements through literary stories appropriately selected for their age and level.
At the same time, based on the stories they have been exposed to, children learn to create constructive arguments, to create their own presentations, to compose their own stories through creative writing activities as well as to create their own comic books. Sample activities include:
- Presentation Skills
- Creative Writing
- Science Projects
- History Projects
- Arts & Crafts
13 – 16 years old
Students explore different Science fields and the Arts, which both serve as the bases of this age group, but are taken a step further. Teenagers are invited to explore important technological and scientific achievements as well as critically question important historical events. All subjects are adapted to the degree of difficulty required by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) levels B1 – C1+.
Students, as in all other age groups, are given the opportunity to develop all 4 language skills as well as their critical thinking. At the same time, they strengthen their language skills as natural speakers of the language through topic-based activities specifically designed to maintain a high interest among adolescents. Sample activities include:
- Presentation & Debate Skills
- Health & Medicine Projects
- Biology & Nature Projects
- History Projects
- Experiments
